We went to celebrate a birthday a day after the eve of Passover for my friend, Or. We just forgot that we need to find a place where the food is also kosher for Passover. Which led us to a quick search for a place that would be worthy of a birthday with a nice sunset atmosphere as the birthday bride requested, and one that would also meet the important kosher requirement.
This is how we arrived at Stolero, a restaurant on the beach in Tel Aviv, next to the Gordon Pool, which updated the audience on a kosher menu for Passover. A nice place as we wanted, with a varied menu as we had hoped, and also with close parking which is generally a serious bonus (but very expensive, though).
The menu was very similar to the regular menu of the restaurant. Adjustments have been made and substitutes have been used, when of course I have no problem with it as long as it is tasty.
We looked at the menu and yet tried to choose dishes that would not necessarily require flour as an ingredient. Among all the dishes that came to the table, we also had a strong desire to snack on some delicious chips, and from just a few chips it turned into three full plates, but who cares, it was a pleasure.
We started the meal with Tuna Wasabi Tataki (72 NIS), a dish of seared tuna in tugrashi (Japanese spice mix) and black sesame, with wasabi cream, avocado and Thai pickle. The chunks of tuna were not so chewy, I love my tuna when it melts in my mouth. We've already talked about the wasabi thing, if you do not know how to combine it then do not. He did not really do anything good on the plate, although it was better than the tuna. Lucky the avocado was there and saved the situation. #yammmmm
Salmon Ceviche (69 NIS), a dish of fresh salmon cubes, with avocado, coriander, hot pepper, purple onion, yuzu sauce (Japanese lemon) and Japanese mustard. A cute, very familiar dish, one we already saw in Japanese restaurants 5-6 years ago. Good flavors but not a dish that managed to innovate something for me in this world. #yammmmm
Sea Fish and Pineapple Carpaccio (69 NIS), with coriander, mint, green onions, cream, roasted pistachios, reduced balsamic, olive oil and lemon. So far the dish that worked best for me at the meal. There was the crunchiness, the taste of the fish I like and greens that add good flavors. Spoon everything into your mouth and it's a very nice bite. #yammmmm
Chestnut and Mushroom Linguini (79 NIS), with cream, Portobello mushrooms and white shiitake, porcini axis, cream butter and truffles, arugula and parmesan. Linguini is pasta, and pasta is dough, and dough is flour, matzah flour, and yet, we had delicious. Or and I literally stole chestnuts from each other, and overall we got a delicious and fun dish. True a bit heavy because if we count all the ingredients again we will also understand the reason. But it was still delicious. #yammmmm
We finished with two delicious desserts. A dessert of a kind of chocolate cake and a dessert of crème Brule and pistachio ice cream. Both were really tasty, an amazing solution to end a kosher meal with for Passover. #yammmmm
It's a #yammmmm
